Dear Resident
Parlon to address Shankill phone mast concerns
Last Monday, following contact with your local Residents Association I went out to visit the site which is causing such concern to see for myself what is happening.
It is obvious that what is being proposed is not replacing like with like, and I am concerned that no planning application was made. There are conflicting views as to whether this was necessary. In any event I feel that what should have happened was a consultation with the local community.
Because of the high level of concern not just locally, but nationally about telephone masts I have requested that Minister Tom Parlon, Minister of State with responsibility for the OPW, would meet with the residents. Tom has kindly agreed to meet with representatives of the Residents Association as soon as possible, hopefully Thursday morning.
I understand that inaccurate and misleading remarks were made about myself and Party colleagues at a recent Dun Laoghaire Area Committee meeting of the local Council. There is no question of me failing to address residents’ concerns. This is purely political mischief. I am very much aware that residents have concerns and I intend raising the matter in the Dail.
Please be assured of my concern in the matter and that it is receiving my utmost attention. Do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss this further.
Yours sincerely
