O’Malley praises residents for Tidy Towns’ win
Progressive Democrats TD Fiona O’Malley has paid tribute to local residents and businesses after Dalkey, Dun Laoghaire, and Sandycove all picked up awards in the 2005 Tidy Towns Competition, while Ballybrack was highly commended.
‘Local residents deserve to feel very proud of their achievement. The standard of entry in the Tidy Towns Competition gets stiffer every year and Dalkey, Dun Laoghaire, and Sandycove ought to be very proud,’ says O’Malley.
‘In order to be successful in a competition like the Tidy Towns, everyone needs to play a part and a very strong community spirit is essential. This year was a very good result and I look forward to building on this achievement and securing even more honours next year.’
Dalkey Town, Dun Laoghaire and Ballybrack were all highly commended in the county awards category. Sandycove picked up a SuperValu Endeavour Award. McDonagh’s Pub in Dalkey was crowned Best Shopfront in the Dublin Region – a tremendous result given the very stiff level of competition, and well done to all involved. And the People’s Park in Dún Laoghaire won the Dublin Category in the Landscape Awards.
‘It was an honour for me to have been involved in particular with the Sandycove committee and I am delighted that they won an Endeavour Award. This will be a valuable stepping stone to build on for next year’s competition.’
‘I would like to pay tribute to all those who contributed to this year’s success. It should be a source of great pride for each of the communities involved.’
