O’Malley welcomes refurbishment funding boost for 15 Dun Laoghaire schools

The news that 15 Dun Laoghaire schools have got the go-ahead for vital refurbishments has been welcomed by Progressive Democrats TD Fiona O’Malley.

Approximately €78m will be spent by schools across the State this summer on projects such as gas, electrical and mechanical upgrades, refurbishment of Science labs or Home Economics rooms, roof replacement and repairs, window replacement, toilet upgrades, structural improvements and access works.

The Dun Laoghaire Deputy warmly welcomed the news, as inclusion on the Summer School Works Scheme list means that schools will get much-needed improvements such as outdoor play areas during the summer months.

“I am delighted that so many schools are included in the programme announced today by the Government. I am sure today’s news will be welcomed by the management and teaching staff of the schools, as well as the parents of pupils across the State,” she said.

“A total of 172 schools across Dublin will share €28 million. Naturally I am particularly delighted that 15 schools from my own community are to receive a portion of those funds to have the necessary work carried out.”

Deputy O’Malley paid tribute to the staff and board of management at all the schools listed, and expressed the hope that refurbishment work would commence as soon as possible.
