O'Malley welcomes €1.4 million funding for disabled people in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown
Progressive Democrats TD Fiona O'Malley has welcomed the news that a massive €1.4 million has been allocated to improve the private homes of disabled people in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown.
The Dun Laoghaire deputy said the funding would be welcomed by every family with a disabled member of the household.
"I welcome this substantial allocation which will allow disabled people to remain in their own homes here in Dun Laoghaire. This means they can remain part of their communities and not experience the sense of isolation that can arise when a person is removed from the people and environment they are most familiar with," she said.
The Disabled Persons and Essential Repairs Grant Schemes funding is distributed in the force of grants through local authorities. They will be spent on adapting houses to make them more suitable for a disabled member of the household.
Deputy O'Malley said the grants were to help support the cost of renovation, upgrading or equipping of the homes of disabled and elderly people in order to provide a better quality of life for all.
